Business & Sustainable Development: Case in Myanmar

500 Students Attended AD NAGATA Sponsored Lecture on Sustainability in University Science of Malaysia.

To date, AD NAGATA Ltd. operates two 100% owned overseas subsidiaries in Malaysia and Myanmar respectively. We commit to the growth of the local community and one of our core beliefs is nurturing young minds for a better world.

Align with this belief, we have appointed Dr.Wong Lai Yong, a Malaysian Sustainability Expert as our Advisor since the year 2016. Since then, we have established strong partnership with University Science of Malaysia (USM), the second oldest university in Malaysia.

On 2 October 2018 (Tue), Dr.Wong delivered a guest lecture as a part of the elective subject “Sustainability: Issues and Prospects” offered by Centre of Global Sustainable Studies (CGSS), USM. The lecture entitled “Business & Sustainable Development: Case in Myanmar” to 500 undergraduate students across faculties.

This is the 4th round the similar sponsored lecture was carried out every semester since April 2017 to enlighten the students on embedding sustainability Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative into the core business, instead of merely tree planting or donation, which the contributions are more to ad hoc basis. The lecture is supported through the real case study of AD NAGATA Myanmar CSR initiatives by donating trash bins and maps to tourist spots in Bagan, also post boxes in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw, while on top of these are advertisements with sponsors. The students too were having group discussion based on the case, some selected group too presented their opinions on the benefits of this CSR initiative to the community and business respectively, while suggesting innovative initiatives for AD NAGATA Malaysia too.

We believe that this is a good industry-university collaboration to continuously reach out to inspire the younger generations on the practical business world and to equip them for it in the near future. This collaboration will be continued and expanded too to play our role to contribute to the local society.
